Washington, D.C. – The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chair (CHC) Michelle Lujan Grisham released the following statement after Republicans voted for the fifth time to pass a short-term spending bill:

"For the fifth time this Congress, President Trump and Congressional Republicans have decided to govern from crisis to crisis. I cannot enable this reckless conduct by voting for yet another continuing resolution. Continuing resolutions create uncertainty in our markets, hurt our national security, and inhibit the government's ability to work for the taxpayer.

"The American people are disserved by passing partisan, irresponsible legislation that the Senate has already rejected.

"President Trump used his State of the Union Address to disparage immigrant communities, distort policy, undermine bipartisan efforts to protect Dreamers, and ignore the issues important to Hispanic communities across this nation.

 

"Since the start of his Presidency, Trump has disregarded the immense contributions of immigrant families and Dreamers. Instead he has adopted rhetoric and policies that call into question their basic dignity and place in America.

Washington, D.C. - The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) urges the House to support a funding resolution that addresses all of our nation's most pressing issues:

"CHC will support a funding resolution that finally includes the desperately needed necessities which thousands of Americans rely on. We cannot continuously kick the can down the road on funding to protect our military and care for our veterans. We need adequate funding for the disaster relief effort still ongoing in the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, California, Texas, and Florida. CHC Members strongly believe any funding resolution must also include a permanent legislative solution to protect Dreamers, and provide crucial funding for the Children's Health Insurance Program and community health centers that serve children, seniors and working families.

Washington D.C. – In the midst of Congress' ongoing tax negotiations, Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY) and Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D-NM), chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) sent a letter to Republican leadership underscoring the harm that the current tax bill will impose on Puerto Rico's already fragile and recovering economy. By taxing the Island as a foreign jurisdiction, the bill will raise production costs which will cost manufacturing jobs and the economy. Signed by fifteen additional members of the CHC, the letter urges immediate action to amend the tax bill to prioritize Puerto Rico's recovery.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – As we continue to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, Joint Economic Committee Democrats and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus today released a fact sheet on the "Economic State of the Latino Community in America." The fact sheet outlines the latest statistics on the economic well-being of the nation's Latino community, including population, employment, and earnings statistics, and other key indicators.

Latinos continue to be one of the fastest growing minority groups in the United States, and account for a combined $1.3 trillion in economic activity. Latinos are also more likely than the general population to become entrepreneurs.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chairwoman Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham and Members of the CHC sent a letter to Department of Justice (DOJ) Attorney General Jeff Sessions inviting him to a meeting to discuss the many concerns Members have with recent DOJ policy changes.

As stated in the letter, "In recent months, the Department of Justice has issued a number of troubling policy changes that run counter to this mission and move us away from a more fair and just society…Many of these changes are constitutionally questionable and some have been overturned in the courts.
