Washington, D.C. — Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Rep. Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) and Rep. Nydia Velázquez (NY-07) released the following joint statement addressing power and water outages in Puerto Rico.
"We stand in solidarity with the people of Puerto Rico as communities across the island face power outages and water shortages. Puerto Rican families and businesses should not be left to bear the consequences of years of delayed recovery and chronic underinvestment in critical infrastructure. We must hold accountable those in the federal and local government who have slowed, delayed, or undermined the resources needed to rebuild and strengthen the island.
Washington, D.C. — The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) released the following statement in response to the New York Times article detailing allegations of sexual assault against César Chávez.
"Accountability never dies.
The allegations published against César Chávez are deeply disturbing and profoundly serious. We cannot celebrate a man, regardless of his accomplishments, if he harmed women and children in such vile ways.
While it's heartbreaking when leaders are exposed as flawed beyond absolution, a just society has a duty to hold abusers accountable without exception.
