CHC Chair Statement on Passage of Budget Caps Bill

February 9, 2018
Washington, D.C. - The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01) issued the following statement after voting against the budget agreement:
"It is unacceptable for Republicans to control every branch of government, yet continue to govern so recklessly.
"This budget caps bill was an opportunity to address all of our nation's most pressing issues, including ensuring that families had access to health care, communities affected by disasters received relief, and Dreamers were permanently protected. Instead, we must now continue to fight tirelessly for a lasting bipartisan legislative solution for Dreamers.
"Speaker Ryan and Majority Leader McCarthy have repeatedly shown a basic lack of understanding for the severity of this Trump-created crisis, which demands immediate action. Today, I stand with nearly 90% of Americans, all Democrats, and rank-and-file Republicans in calling on the Speaker and Majority Leader to bring one of the bipartisan, bicameral bills to the floor for a vote before March 5th. If they do not give us a vote on bipartisan legislation that protects Dreamers, then they will be condoning the deportation of Dreamers – it's as simple as that."
