Washington, D.C. - The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01) released the following statement after President Trump threatened to shut down government if Congress does not spend billions of taxpayer dollars to begin construction of his border wall:
"It is shameful that this far into his Presidency, Mr. Trump continues to grow the divisions that he sowed during his campaign. Instead of using his platform to support a reasonable path forward on immigration reform, the economy and the budget, the President chose to push his divisive, nativist agenda. He continued his attacks on immigrant communities and recklessly threatened to shut down the government if Congress refuses to allocate billions of taxpayer funds to pay for his unnecessary and ineffective border wall.

Washington, D.C. - The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01) released the following statement urging President Trump not to issue a pardon for former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. This statement comes on the heels of reports that the President said that he was "seriously considering" issuing a pardon for Arpaio, who was convicted of criminal contempt for ignoring a judge's order to stop traffic patrols targeting suspected undocumented immigrants.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chairwoman Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham released the following statement on the fifth anniversary of the implementation of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. This anniversary comes as ten Republican Attorneys General issued a threat to challenge DACA in court if the Trump Administration does not terminate the program by September 5th:
"DACA has been transformative to the lives of hundreds of thousands of young people and has resulted in economic gains for cities, states and our nation as a whole. Not only is defending and continuing DACA the morally right thing to do, it is economically beneficial for the nation. That is why the vast majority of Americans, regardless of their political affiliation, overwhelmingly support the DACA program.

Washington, D.C. - The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chair Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham released the following statement on President Trump's endorsement of Republican Senators Tom Cotton (R-AR) and David Perdue's (R-GA) legislation that would slash legal immigration levels and eliminate multiple categories of family-based legal immigration and diversity visas:
"Our nation's ability to attract the best and brightest from around the world is predicated on a legal immigration system that promises economic opportunity, prioritizes families, and meets the needs of American businesses. Yet Senators Cotton and Perdue's legislation would slash immigration levels in half and put tighter restrictions on visas. This misguided legislation threatens America's prosperity, our values, and our global competitive advantage to attract workers.

Washington, D.C. - On Friday, July 28th, Rep. Luis V. Gutiérrez and 117 colleagues introduced the American Hope Act of 2017. Recent actions by State Attorneys General and the Trump Administration have put the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program in peril. This bill would provide a permanent legislative solution for the more than 800,000 young people enrolled in DACA and put thousands of others on a path to earn permanent legal residency and eventual citizenship if they meet certain requirements.
An alliance made up of Members of House Democratic Leadership, the Congressional Black Caucus, Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, Congressional Progressive Caucus, and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus gathered for a press conference in support of Dreamers, DACA, and this critical legislation.

Washington, D.C. – Before the final vote of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2018, Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chairwoman Michelle Lujan Grisham delivered the following remarks as part of a Motion to Recommit (MTR). The amendment was not adopted in a straight party line vote:
Mr./Madam Speaker, this is the final amendment to the bill which will not kill the bill or send it back to committee.
