CHC Chair Statement CHC Chair Statement on Diversity Visa Program
November 1, 2017
Washington D.C. – Today, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01) issued the following statement after President Trump called on Congress to end the Diversity Visa program:
"We must take swift and decisive action to bring the perpetrator of this heinous attack to justice. But the President is exploiting a national tragedy to further his anti-immigrant agenda and once again divide our nation. The President's knee-jerk reaction is irresponsible and reckless and does not address the growing threat of home-grown terrorism. It goes against our values to hastily terminate a program that has allowed more than 1.25 million people to pursue the American dream. It is shameful to wrongfully build suspicion around people who immigrated here legally and are contributing to our country. While the President politicizes a horrible attack, our nation mourns the innocent lives lost."
