CHC Chair Statement Marking End of Hispanic Heritage Month

October 16, 2017
Washington D.C. – The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01) released the following statement to mark the end of Hispanic Heritage Month, which is celebrated each year from the 15th of September until the 15th of October:
"This Hispanic Heritage Month, President Trump and his administration marked the occasion by continuing to impose an anti-immigrant and un-American agenda on the nation, insulting and shaming Americans facing a humanitarian crisis in Puerto Rico, sabotaging the health care of millions, and supporting a tax plan that is a multi-trillion dollar giveaway to the wealthiest, at the expense of middle class and working Americans. The President's irresponsible and reckless actions and policies jeopardize the hard-earned gains of the Hispanic community. Now, more than ever, we have to come together and fight to ensure that our communities have access to affordable health care, a quality education, better-paying jobs, and to use every tool at our disposal to pass the bi-partisan, bi-cameral Dream Act. Only by doing this can we truly honor hard-working Hispanic families and their important social, cultural and economic contributions to our nation."
