Henry Cuellar (TX-28), Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34), and Veronica Escobar (TX-16) in response to the 5th Circuit’s ruling late last night to once again block the implementation of SB 4, Texas anti-immigrant law:
“The recent ruling by the appeals court to once again block SB 4’s implementation is a brief sigh of relief for Texas’ communities, especially for Black and Brown communities across the state. This ruling, which comes hours after the Supreme Court majority decision allowed Texas to move forward with SB 4, helps avoid more chaos and confusion,” said the Members.

“We agree with the President that our immigration system is broken and Congress needs to pass legislation to fix it and provide resources at the southern border. However, I disagree with President Biden's statementthat the proposed policies in the reported Senate Deal are ‘fair’ or that it will fix our problems on the southern border. The reported Senate deal focuses on enforcement provisions that have the potential to make matters worse and would spur more chaos while failing to include legal pathways to ensure safe, orderly migration pathways. The reported provisions are the result of a hostage taking, not a real negotiation that includes give and take from both parties on immigration.
Washington, DC – Recently, Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chair Nanette Barragán (C-44) appeared on MSNBC’S The Weekend with Symone Sanders-Townsend, Alicia Menendez, and Michael Steele to discuss ongoing negotiations on a border package without a single member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, and extreme House Republican’s latest political stunt of a sham impeachment of Department of Homeland Security Alejando Mayorkas.
