The Civil Rights, Housing, and Voting Rights Task Force works to protect the civil rights, housing and voting rights of the Latino community. The task force oversees issues such as the Voting Rights Act, hate crimes, and housing fairness.

Washington, DC – The Congressional Hispanic Caucus urges the House to oppose the ‘‘Border Security and Immigration Reform Act of 2018'':
This bill would hold Dreamer protections hostage for Trump's purely political and wasteful $25 billion border wall. It would further militarize the border and make devastating changes to the Flores Agreement, which would legislate the policies that are currently separating families at the border by making it more difficult for asylum seekers to legally claim asylum, and make it easier to deport children and jail asylum seekers indefinitely.

"The horrific announcement by the Trump Administration deprives some of the most vulnerable victims of domestic and gang violence from seeking protections from beatings, rape and even death. It is shameful that the most powerful nation on earth has chosen to turn its back on these desperate victims.

Washington, DC – Members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), led by Representatives José Serrano (NY-15), CHC Education and Labor Chair Raul M. Grijalva (AZ-03), CHC Chair Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01) and CHC leadership sent a letter to U.S. Department of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos extending an invitation to meet with CHC members before Congress departs for the August District Work Period. The letter follows recent comments made by the Secretary during a House Committee on Education and the Workforce hearing where she indicated that schools should decide whether to report undocumented student children to immigration authorities.

Washington, DC – 12 Members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), led by Representatives Nydia M. Velázquez (NY-07), Tony Cárdenas (CA-29) and Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) sent a letter to U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Ben Carson to highlight concerns with the department's plan to significantly increase rent and work requirements for millions of low income families who rely on federal housing assistance. Nearly 20 percent of all households living in public housing or receiving Housing Choice Vouchers identify as Latino.

"The recent report of the death of a transgender woman in ICE's custody is extremely troubling and raises more concerns about the agency's ability to ensure the safety and well-being of people in their custody."
"People seeking refuge and asylum from violence and discrimination should be protected from further trauma while in immigration proceedings and detention.

Washington, DC – Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01) issued this statement on findings from a new study published in the New England Journal of Medicine by researchers from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and other institutions that estimated 4,645 excess deaths as a result of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico:
"The new mortality study showing that the death toll from Hurricane Maria is roughly 70 times higher than the Trump administration's official death toll is appalling and disturbing.

The inclusion of a citizenship question, as well as, unresolved issues from the 2010 Census jeopardizing the accuracy of the 2020 Census, potentially taking billions of dollars in federal funds and accurate congressional representation from communities across the country.
