The Civil Rights, Housing, and Voting Rights Task Force works to protect the civil rights, housing and voting rights of the Latino community. The task force oversees issues such as the Voting Rights Act, hate crimes, and housing fairness.

Washington, D.C. - Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01) released the following statement in reaction to the Trump administration's announcement to circumvent court limits on the government's ability to hold minors in immigration jails by terminating the Flores Settlement Agreement:
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01), and 19 Members of the CHC sent a letter to Senate Leadership expressing deep concerns and strong opposition to President Trump's Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh.
"The American people deserve a justice that will uphold and protect the rights of all those living in the United States. Unfortunately, a thorough review of Judge Kavanaugh's record demonstrates that he falls considerably short of this critical standard," the Members wrote.
"These cases demonstrate that Kavanaugh has an established judicial track record that undermines the rights of immigrants and women, and strongly demonstrates that he is not fit to serve on the highest court in the land."
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01), and members of CHC leadership sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader; Speaker Paul Ryan; Senator Shelby, Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman; and House Appropriations Committee Chairman Rodney Frelinghuysen demanding that Representative Cole's family detention amendment be struck from any funding package. This poison pill amendment would strip away vital provisions of the Flores Settlement agreement which protects vulnerable immigrant children and forcing them to remain in jail-like conditions indefinitely. The amendment was included in the House Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies (Labor-HHS) appropriations bill, which will soon be conferenced as part of a larger minibus funding package.

"Today's ruling simply continues the uncertainty for hundreds of thousands of DACA recipients, which began as a result of Trump's reckless decision to end the program and Congressional Republicans' refusal to join us in working toward a permanent and bipartisan solution.
Washington, D.C. – Today, Members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) led by Congressman Darren Soto, Chair of the CHC Taskforce on Voting and Civil Rights, sent a letter to the Department of Commerce expressing strong opposition to the addition of the citizenship question to the 2020 Census. Today's letter was submitted as part of the Department of the Commerce's U.S. Census Bureau public comment period, which ends August 7, 2018.

"U.S. District Judge Dolly Gee's decision to appoint an independent monitor is a step in the right direction in holding the government accountable and ensuring detention facilities and shelters are as safe as possible. An independent monitor's oversight will provide unbiased reports on how children are being treated in detention facilities along the southern border and reassure the American public that the government is meeting its responsibilities.
