Washington, D.C. – Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chairwoman Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham released the following statement on the six-month anniversary of Hurricane Maria's landfall on Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands:
"In the six months since Hurricane Maria made landfall, we have seen the harrowing and heroic stories of everyday Americans rebuilding their lives after such a devastating natural disaster. Despite a haphazard, inadequate, and slow moving disaster response from the Trump Administration, our fellow American citizens have done all they can to bring some normalcy to their communities.
"Tens of thousands of American citizens remain without permanent shelter, water or electricity.

Washington D.C. – The Congressional Tri-Caucus Chairs – composed of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01), Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) Chair Judy Chu (CA-27), and the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Chair Cedric Richmond (LA-02) – sent a letter to Majority Leader McConnell, Democratic Leader Schumer, Speaker Ryan and Democratic Leader Pelosi to urge them to reject any increases in funding that can be used towards Trump's mass deportation force as negotiations continue on the Fiscal Year (FY) 2018 omnibus appropriations bill.
"Since President Trump took office last year, we have seen this Administration implement policy changes that have disproportionately harmed minorities and communities of color.

Washington, D.C. - The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chairwoman Michelle Lujan Grisham (N-01) released the following statement on the passing of former Puerto Rico Congressman, Secretary of State, Puerto Rico Supreme Court Justice, and Mayor of San Juan, Baltasar Corrada del Río. Corrada del Río was one of the original co-founders of the CHC:
"It is with great sadness that our nation learned of the loss of a monumental leader and stalwart supporter of the Hispanic community. Congressman Corrada Del Río's legacy lives on in the millions of students who have been helped by the Department of Education that he championed into law and in the work of the Hispanic Caucus that he co-founded.

"It is unacceptable for Republicans to control every branch of government, yet continue to govern so recklessly.
"This budget caps bill was an opportunity to address all of our nation's most pressing issues, including ensuring that families had access to health care, communities affected by disasters received relief, and Dreamers were permanently protected.

CHC cannot support this budget caps bill that leaves Dreamers behind. We stand with nearly 90% of Americans that agree Dreamers should be protected.

Washington, D.C. – The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chair (CHC) Michelle Lujan Grisham released the following statement after Republicans voted for the fifth time to pass a short-term spending bill:
"For the fifth time this Congress, President Trump and Congressional Republicans have decided to govern from crisis to crisis. I cannot enable this reckless conduct by voting for yet another continuing resolution. Continuing resolutions create uncertainty in our markets, hurt our national security, and inhibit the government's ability to work for the taxpayer.
"The American people are disserved by passing partisan, irresponsible legislation that the Senate has already rejected.

"President Trump used his State of the Union Address to disparage immigrant communities, distort policy, undermine bipartisan efforts to protect Dreamers, and ignore the issues important to Hispanic communities across this nation.
"Since the start of his Presidency, Trump has disregarded the immense contributions of immigrant families and Dreamers. Instead he has adopted rhetoric and policies that call into question their basic dignity and place in America.
