Washington, D.C. – Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01), CHC Agriculture Task Force Chair Representative Jim Costa (CA-16) and 20 CHC Members sent a letter to Speaker Paul Ryan outlining their concerns with H.R. 2, the Agriculture and Nutrition Act of 2018 and urging him to oppose its passage. If adopted this partisan proposal would harm millions of Latinos and their families by making sweeping cuts and changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) as well as other priority programs, and hurt our nation's agriculture interests.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01) released the following statement on President Trump's chief of staff, Gen. John Kelly's disparaging comments regarding immigrants and immigration during an interview with NPR:
"The Chief of Staff's bigoted comments about immigrants seeking refuge are a slap in the face to the generations of people who have come from foreign lands to contribute to the richness of our nation. I would like to remind General Kelly that the intolerant and ignorant ideas he espoused from the White House are exactly the same comments and attitudes that were prevalent against all of our families.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01) released the following statement after the House voted to pass S.J. Res 57, which would repeal the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's 2013 Indirect Auto Lending Guidance:
"For five years this guidance has protected consumers of color from discriminatory lending practices, but today's misguided decision will leave these communities vulnerable to unfair interest rate markups and set a dangerous deregulatory precedent aimed at rolling back consumer protections.
"Data shows that discrimination in auto lending continues to be a very real problem for communities of color.

Washington, D.C. - Today, the House Agriculture Committee marked up and passed H.R. 2 – the Agriculture and Nutrition Act of 2018 – commonly known as the Farm Bill. This version of the Farm Bill makes dramatic changes and cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP. SNAP is a temporary program that helps Americans struggling with food insecurity and poverty provide their children and families the sustenance they need to be healthy. SNAP is a powerful anti-poverty program for Hispanic families and Americans in both urban and rural communities across the country.

Washington, D.C. - The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) urges all Members to oppose the FY 2018 omnibus:
The CHC cannot support this spending bill as it would fund Trump's border wall and mass deportation force. It is indefensible for Congress to pass a spending bill that not only leaves Dreamers without permanent protections but also funds their deportations and those of immigrants with deep ties to their communities. Furthermore, this bill does not enact bipartisan measures to stabilize our health care system, fix our broken pension system, or adequately address gun violence.
