WASHINGTON, DC – Yesterday, the Smithsonian Board of Regents announced appointments to the Board of Trustees for the forthcoming National Museum of the American Latino. Earlier this year, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) voted to appoint CHC Member Congressman Tony Cárdenas (CA-29) to the board after he helped shepherd the National Museum of the American Latino Act through the House of Representatives during the 116th Congress. WASHINGTON, D.C.— The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) has endorsed H.R. 801, the Expanding Medical Education Act, introduced by CHC Member Rep. Jim Costa (CA-16). The Expanding Medical Education Act would provide $1 billion in funding for medical school construction, expansion, and training in underserved communities that lack quality access to quality healthcare. WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) endorsed the Equality Act, introduced by LGBTQ+ Equality Caucus Chair David Cicilline (RI-01). The bill prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in areas such as employment, education, housing, credit, the jury system, public accommodations and facilities, and federal funding. 29 states across America still lack comprehensive statewide laws against LGBTQ discrimination, leaving large gaps in LGBTQ protections. The executive actions will direct the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to take necessary steps to redress racially discriminatory federal housing policies that have contributed to wealth inequality for generations.
