WASHINGTON, D.C.— Today, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) met with Department of Transportation (DOT) Secretary Pete Buttigieg to discuss the American Jobs Plan and equity in transportation. Following the meeting, CHC Chairman Dr. Raul Ruiz released the statement below:
"I would like to thank Secretary Pete Buttigieg for meeting with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) to discuss the American Jobs Plan," said Chair Dr. Ruiz. "The pandemic has exposed and exacerbated existing racial and ethnic disparities. With the Biden Administration, we now have an opportunity to invest in underserved Hispanic communities as we work to build back better.
WASHINGTON—The Biden Administration has authorized $1.3 billion in aid for Puerto Rico to help protect against future climate disasters. Restrictions on another $4.9 billion are being eased. The move comes more than three years after Hurricane Maria devastated the island. In response to the announcement, Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chairman Raul Ruiz, M.D. (CA-36) and CHC Members Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez (NY-07), Congressman Darren Soto (FL-09), Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14), and Congressman Ritchie Torres (NY-15) issued the following statement:
WASHINGTON, D.C.— Members of the Tri-Caucus sent a letter to Acting EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler and Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao in opposition to the Trump Administration's recently announced plan to weaken federal clean car standards. The bicameral letter, which was led by U.S. Reps. Nanette Diaz Barragán (CA-44), Doris Matsui (CA-06), A. Donald McEachin (VA-04), expressed Members concerns that the new standards will result in an increase of air pollution, climate change impacts, and fuel costs that will disproportionately affect low-income communities and communities of color.
