CHC Calls for Full and Fair Consideration of Latino Media Network Sale
Washington, D.C. – Today, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) sent a letterto the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) calling for full and fair consideration of the transfer of ownership of 18 AM and FM radio stations in Florida, Texas, California, Illinois, Nevada, and New York from TelevisaUnivision to Latino Media Network (LMN).
Over the last few years, the CHC has been troubled by a rise in targeted mis- and disinformation efforts across Spanish language radio. With this purchase, the public interest is served by ensuring the protection of a myriad of diverse voices across various Hispanic origins and through multiple regions in the United States.
CHC Members issued the following statements:
"Lies cost lives, and the CHC continues to work to address the rampant spread of Spanish-language dis/misinformation, which is why we support the sale of 18 AM and FM radio stations from TelevisaUnivision to Latino Media Network," said Chair Dr. Ruiz. "The sale will ensure we protect quality, bilingual programming throughout multiple regions. We call for full and fair consideration from the FCC for the transfer of ownership."
"The sale of 18 AM and FM radio stations to Latino Media Network will help us ensure that mis/disinformation isn't running rampant through Spanish-language radio across Florida and the United States. As we've seen in the past, these efforts to target our communities are extremely dangerous. I believe that this sale is a step in the right direction," said CHC Vice Chair of Policy Rep. Darren Soto.
