WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, October 2nd, 2020, Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chairman Joaquin Castro (TX-20) released the follow statement on the President and First Lady contracting COVID-19:

"We wish the President and First Lady a swift recovery. Hopefully, this tragedy is a wake-up call. President Trump has repeatedly spread disinformation about COVID-19, lied to the American people about the seriousness of this deadly pandemic, and downplayed the importance of basic public health measures such as wearing a mask. The President of the United States has access to the best health care in the world, yet millions of Americans—including essential workers like farmworkers and meat-packers—do not have the same resources and our country still lacks a national testing strategy.

WASHINGTON — Tomorrow, September 30th, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus is hosting a virtual discussion on how COVID-19 is disproportionately harming Latino communities and what we can do to address these disparities. Latinos are three times as likely to be infected and twice as likely to die from the coronavirus, largely a consequence of long-standing health, economic, and social inequities. The conversation will be livestreamed on CHC's Facebook page.

Karen Bass (CA-37), and Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus Chair Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27) will be broadcasted live on the House Judiciary Committee's YouTube channel.

WASHINGTONOn Saturday, September 26, 2020, Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) members and members of the House Judiciary Committee will travel to Georgia to investigate Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Irwin County Detention Center in Ocilla, Georgia, where multiple immigrant women have alleged hysterectomies and other medical procedures were performed without their consent.The Congressional Delegation will also assess conditions related to the spread of COVID-19, with more than 40 confirmed cases of COVID-19 over the last several months among detained individuals that poses a greater risk of further contagion among the vulnerable immigrants detained there. ICE does not permit media to inside the facility, but members of Congress will hold a press call after their inspection to share the public their oversight findings.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The leadership of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) led by Chairman Joaquin Castro (TX-20) sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader McConnell and Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Chairman Johnson opposing the nomination Chad F. Wolf to be Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

The letter was signed by CHC leadership: Chairman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), First Vice Chair Ruben Gallego (AZ-07), Second Vice Chair Nanette Diaz Barragán (CA-44), Whip Adriano Espaillat (NY-13), and Freshman Representative Veronica Escobar (TX-16).

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chairman Joaquin Castro (TX-20) released the following statement after a nurse employed at an ICE detention center filed a whistleblower complaint to the DHS Inspector General documenting ‘jarring medical neglect'—including allegations of hysterectomies being performed on immigrant woman without informed consent of this life-altering surgery:
