Congressional Hispanic Caucus Statement Following Judiciary Subcommittee Hearing on Need for Bold Reforms in Our Immigration System

February 11, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today the Immigration and Citizenship Subcommittee within the House Judiciary Committee held a hearing highlighting the need for bold immigration reform. Following the hearing, Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chairman Raul Ruiz, M.D. (CA-36) released the statement below:

"The Congressional Hispanic Caucus thanks Judiciary Committee Chair Nadler and Immigration and Citizenship Subcommittee Chair Lofgren for holding this critical hearing today to highlight the importance of immigration reform," said Chairman Ruiz. "The CHC will continue to work closely with Chair Nadler, Chair Lofgren, and our two incredible CHC leaders, Senator Menendez and Congresswoman Sánchez, to pass big and bold immigration legislation for immigrants once and for all."

"Our country is stronger and more prosperous when we embrace our immigrant communities. Now, more than ever, our country needs the contributions of immigrants to ensure our economic recovery. It is past time that we fix our broken immigration system in a way that reunites families and provides an earned pathway to citizenship for the millions of people who help feed America, keep us safe, and play a critical role in the prosperity of our nation. We need a fair and humane immigration system that allows immigrant communities to fully contribute to our country."

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), founded in December 1976, is organized as a Congressional Member organization, governed under the Rules of the U.S. House of Representatives. The CHC is dedicated to voicing and advancing, through the legislative process, issues affecting Hispanics in the United States, Puerto Rico and U.S. Territories.
