Washington, D.C. – Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chairman Rep. Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) issued the following statement in response to U.S. District Judge Fernando Rodriguez, Jr.'s ruling against the Trump administration's illegal use of the Alien Enemies Act for expedited deportations.
"A Trump appointed judge ruled what we all knew to be true: The Trump administration illegally used the Alien Enemies Act to deport people without due process.

CHC Opposes IRS-DHS Agreement, Leading Over 100 House Democrats in Court Filing to Defend Taxpayer Privacy

Chairman Espaillat Statement on Illegal Deportation Flight
Washington, D.C. – Regarding recent reports that the Trump administration will imminently deport a group of Venezuelan immigrants to El Salvador under the Alien Enemies Act without due process once again, Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) issued the following statement:

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Wednesday, April 9, 2025, Members of Congress joined Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s wife, Jennifer Vasquez Sura, and immigrant advocacy leaders from CASA to demand answers and accountability from the Trump Administration for the illegal deportation and disappearance of Abrego Garcia—a Maryland father, tradesman, and legal U.S. resident who was forcibly removed to El Salvador in March despite holding lawful status.
Members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and the Maryland delegation spoke out alongside Vasquez Sura against Abrego García's unlawful detention.
In their own words: "Kilmar, if you can hear me, I'm still fighting for you. Your brother. Your mother. Your children. They're still fighting for you. We're not gonna give up hope. To the Supreme Court justices, do the right thing. History will always remember you," said Vasquez Sura.

Congressional Hispanic Caucus Urges Treasury and IRS to Reject Use of Taxpayer Data for Immigration Enforcement
Washington, D.C. – Today, Members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Acting IRS Commissioner Melanie Krause expressing strong opposition to any agreement that would allow the IRS to share taxpayer information with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) or Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for immigration enforcement purposes.
