Washington, D.C. – Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chairwoman Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham released the following statement following today's failed attempt by Republicans to pass President Trump's health care legislation:

"This isn't a time to gloat. It's time to get to work because Republicans have played politics for the past seven years instead of putting consumers, patients and families first. They have engaged in health care malpractice, and people are really struggling. The Affordable Care Act isn't perfect, but Republicans are responsible for not allowing us to negotiate prescription drug prices, not holding insurance companies accountable for high administrative costs, and not funding ACA provisions that pay for sicker patients. Maybe now they will work in earnest with Democrats to do the right thing for American families."

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) met with Senate Democratic Leader Charles E. Schumer to discuss ways to keep families together and protect immigrants from President Trump's draconian immigration policies.

"We are pursuing every opportunity to protect immigrants and families from President Trump's misguided immigration policies," said Chairwoman Michelle Lujan Grisham. "Caucus members oppose the President's efforts to pay for a mass deportation force and border wall, both of which have resulted in mass hysteria and real harm in our communities. We count on Senate Democrats, led by Sen. Schumer, as important allies in our fight for a fair and effective immigration system that reflects our values as a nation."

Washington, D.C. – Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chairwoman Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham released the following statement, calling on Speaker Ryan and Republican leaders to remove Congressman Steve King from his position as Chair of the Constitution and Civil Justice Judiciary Subcommittee:

"Congressman Steve King's history of racist and xenophobic remarks is unacceptable and does not have a place in the halls of the United States Congress. WASHINGTON, D.C. – This weekend, Members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) are hosting a series of events that will highlight the impact of immigration policy on the lives of everyday people. This comes as the Trump Administration ramps up immigration enforcement activity and takes a draconian stance on immigration policy.

CHC Chairwoman Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01) said, "These events highlight our commitment to immigration policies that prioritize the economic and social contributions of immigrants. We support law enforcement efforts to address violent crime, but we will resist efforts by the Trump Administration to scapegoat and criminalize productive members of our communities."

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chairwoman Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham joined other members of the CHC in sending a letter to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary John Kelly opposing a policy that would separate children from their mothers at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Chairwoman Lujan Grisham said, "To tear children from their mothers as a deterrent policy is heinous. It's an egregious policy that questions basic human rights and our country's moral standing in the world. There are better, more sensible immigration procedures that protect families while they proceed through the asylum application process."
