Washington D.C. – The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01) released the following statement to commemorate the start of Hispanic Heritage Month, which is celebrated each year from the 15th of September until the 15th of October:
"Every Hispanic Heritage Month, we reflect on and honor the history, culture, achievements, and perseverance of our community. Hispanic families have been fundamental in the success of the nation. Hispanic men and women are teachers, scientists, entrepreneurs and serve in the Armed Forces. Hispanic families believe in the American dream and are striving to achieve it. We recognize and cherish the unique role Hispanic Americans have played in our nation's history.
"But this Hispanic Heritage Month is different.

Washington D.C. – Today, Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chair Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01) released the following statement after members of the CHC voted to formally oppose H.R. 3697, the Criminal Alien Gang Member Removal Act:
"This legislation is an assault on the basic due process protections afforded to everyone in our nation. The bill broadly overreaches and puts Americans and immigrants at risk of being unjustly profiled. The sweeping discretion given to enforcement officials is so dangerously broad that it would classify nuns who assist undocumented immigrants as gang members. We all support efforts to make our cities and neighborhoods safer, including a crackdown on gang violence. But this legislation infringes on constitutional protections, and is irresponsible and dangerous.

Washington D.C. – The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01) released the following statement in response to the White House discussion between Democratic Leadership and President Trump on the future of nearly 800,000 DREAMers:
"My priority is continuing to push Republican leadership to pass the DREAM Act without delay. Not only must a final agreement protect 800,000 young American DREAMers but it also must reflect the values of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and the interests of immigrant communities across the country."

Washington D.C. – Today, Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chair Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01), released the following statement after Attorney General Jeff Sessions relayed that President Trump has decided to terminate the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program with a six-month delay period:
"President Trump's decision to terminate the DACA program is a direct assault on American values. The President's inhumane, morally reprehensible, and cruel action uses the lives of DREAMers as bargaining chips and pawns in his effort to further his anti-immigrant agenda. It is clear, whether it happens today or in six-months, the President is choosing to upend and devastate the lives of hundreds of thousands of hardworking young people who are American in every way.

Washington D.C. – Today, Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chair Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01), released the following statement after reports surfaced that President Trump has decided to terminate the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program with a six-month delay period:
"If reports are true, then Mr. Trump's decision to end DACA will stand as an indefensible and unjust act of cruelty. In every way, DACA has made our nation stronger and kept alive the American dream for 800,000 aspiring Americans. I urge him to protect DREAMers by keeping DACA in place, while Congress works to find a permanent legislative solution. The two are not mutually exclusive. DREAMers' lives are not bargaining chips and should not be used as pawns in furthering the President's anti-immigrant agenda.

Washington D.C. – The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01) released the following statement on a report that House Republicans are planning to cut $876 million from Federal Emergency Management Agency's disaster relief account to finance the President's border wall:
"It's disgusting and disgraceful that Republican lawmakers thought it was ok to pillage one-third of FEMA's disaster relief account and use it to build President Trump's senseless border wall. The federal disaster aid account is a critical lifeline for people recovering from catastrophes like Harvey, it is not a slush fund for ridiculous political whims.

Washington D.C. – Today, Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chair Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01), released the following statement as President Trump considers terminating the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which provides young men and women who were brought to America as children the opportunity to work and go to school in the United States.
This purely political move by the president would have disastrous impacts on our economy, devastate families and do nothing to secure our borders or fix our broken immigration system.
"Any attempt by the President to end DACA would be a betrayal to a group of young people who are the living embodiment of American values. This administration has continuously attacked and vilified immigrants and ending DACA would be another cruel attack on our community.
