More on Immigration and Border Issues
Washington, DC- Today, Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chairman Rubén Hinojosa (TX-15), CHC Immigration Task Force Chair Congressman Luis Gutiérrez (IL-04), and CHC Civil Rights Task Force Chair Congresswoman Linda Sánchez (CA-38) released the following statements following the school guidance announcement from the Departments of Justice and Education. The two departments announced updated guidance on school enrollment as it relates to undocumented students. First issued in 2011, today's updated guidance assists public elementary and secondary schools in ensuring that all students have access to an education regardless of their or their parents' immigration status.
Washington, DC- Today, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chairman Rubén Hinojosa, CHC Immigration Task Force Chair Luis Gutierrez, and Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus Xavier Becerra, met with President Barack Obama, on behalf of the CHC, where they discussed the urgent need to provide relief to immigrant families being torn apart by our broken immigration system. The meeting was productive, and as a result, the Caucus will be meeting with Department of Homeland Secretary Jeh Johnson to continue moving forward in a constructive manner.
A permanent legislative solution is needed to truly fix our nation's broken immigration system. The CHC will continue to work with the President, the faith community, business and community leaders to put pressure on House Republican Leadership to allow a vote on H.R. 15, the bipartisan comprehensive immigration reform bill.
