Washington D.C.: Today, the congresswomen of the Congressional Hispanic, Black and Asian Pacific American Caucuses held a press conference to express strong opposition to the Cantor/Adams VAWA reauthorization bill, which would roll back protections for battered immigrant women, Tribal victims, college students and LGBT victims.
Washington D.C.: Today, CHC Chairman Charles A. Gonzalez (TX-20) and members of the CHC released the following statement in celebration of Cinco de Mayo, which commemorates the historic Battle of Puebla, when the outnumbered Mexican military triumphed over the French Army in 1862:
“Cinco de Mayo marks a special occasion for the 31.8 million Mexican-Americans in our country, both as a celebration of heritage and also as a reminder that every person strives for freedom and an opportunity to build a better life. I’m proud to celebrate the importance of this date and the significance of the Battle of Pueba, as well as recognize the rich contributions Mexican-Americans continue to make to our nation.
