RECORD NUMBER OF CHC MEMBERS SWORN IN

January 3, 2013

Washington D.C.: Congressman Rubén Hinojosa (TX-15) , Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC):

"Today's swearing in ceremony marks an historic day for Congress. We now have an unprecedented 26 members in our caucus, including a U.S. Senator, representing our diverse Latino population. I'm very excited by the enthusiasm of our incoming freshmen members. They electrified this past election with their contagious energy and inspiring stories. Together with our standing members, they bring decades of experience, new ideas, passion and commitment and they will be invaluable to the success of the CHC.

Now, it is our responsibility to unite with all members of Congress – black and white, Latino, Asian, Native American, conservative, progressive- to work toward building a better America for all Americans. To quote a telegram that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once wrote to Cesar Chavez: "We are together with you in spirit, and in determination, that our dreams for a better tomorrow will be realized."

First Vice Chair Ben Ray Luján (NM-3):

“As we begin the 113th Congress, it is exciting to have a House of Representatives that looks more and more like the faces of our nation. With a record number of Hispanic members serving in Congress, we have an opportunity to ensure that the voices of our community are heard loud and clear as we work toward a brighter future for all Americans.”
