Washington, D.C. — Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Whip Rep. Sylvia Garcia (TX-29), CHC Chair Rep. Adriano Espaillat (NY-13), and Members of the CHC held a press conference on Tuesday demanding answers regarding the recent murders at the hands of rogue Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. The members reaffirmed their commitment to rein in the Trump administration's abuse of power and illegal killings.
Members of the CHC held a hearing on July 24th in Houston, Texas to uncover more details about the senseless death of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. Lorenzo was a father of three who lived in the United States for 35 years in the pursuit of legal status.
On Wednesday, leaders of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC), Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), and the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) announced a new House resolution calling for reforms to restore voting rights in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision in Louisiana v. Callais.
The resolution calls for the House to adopt legislation to restore and strengthen the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and, in the next pro-democracy governing moment, the elimination of the 60-vote threshold in the Senate and enactment of structural change to the Supreme Court.
Washington, D.C. — Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Rep. Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) issued the following statement demanding the renewal of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for El Salvador:
“Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin has a choice to make: He can renew TPS for El Salvador, strengthening families, communities and our nation's economy, or he can wreak havoc on the lives of 170,000 fully vetted Salvadoran TPS beneficiaries and the 277,000 U.S. citizens -- including 150,000 children -- who live with them."
"This should not be a difficult choice. Unable to return to their country, Salvadoran TPS beneficiaries followed our laws, submitted to regular background checks, and bet their entire livelihoods on the word and good faith of the United States of America."
