ICYMI: Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Condemn the deadly ICE-related Shootings and Demand Answers

Washington, D.C. — Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Whip Rep. Sylvia Garcia (TX-29), CHC Chair Rep. Adriano Espaillat (NY-13), and Members of the CHC held a press conference on Tuesday demanding answers regarding the recent murders at the hands of rogue Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. The members reining in the Trump administration's abuse of power and illegal killings.
Members of the CHC will be holding a hearing on July 24th in Houston, Texas to uncover more details about the senseless death of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. Lorenzo was a father of three who lived in the United States for 35 years in the pursuit of legal status.
Each killing from the ICE agents is outrageous and deserves full and absolute condemnation. The Trump administration hopes we see these killings as the new normal, but the Congressional Hispanic Caucus will not stop demanding answers and accountability for those who have died at the hands of a rogue agency that continues to indiscriminately terrorize communities across America.
"Every single life is worth the same and we should be equally outraged by this killing. When we see his son speak about him, the tears coming down his eyes are the same tears that come out everybody's eyes when somebody else is killed by ICE. So, we're here to denounce that. We're here to denounce the killing. We're here to denounce the violent behavior of ICE, but we're also here to denounce it's sort of like double standard because he's a brown man as though he doesn't have a first name and a last name just like any of us here," said CHC Chair Rep. Adriano Espaillat (NY-13). "Justice should be decided in our courtrooms, not in the asphalt in the pavement of any city across this country."
"Every day the ICE story gets worse and worse. That's why we need congressional oversight. It means that we need to continue demanding every report, every photograph, every video, every communication, and every review that can be made," saidCHC Whip Rep. Sylvia Garcia (TX-29). "Lorenzo's family will not be forgotten. They will not fight alone because we are all here. All of these members of Congress from different states are here to support us. And I've gotten countless calls and texts from all over the country, in fact, the world, about this case. We will keep fighting until we get the truth and the justice that the Salgado family deserves."
"Lorenzo on that horrible morning committed one crime. The crime of trying to achieve the American dream for his three sons and his wife. Getting up in the morning, going to work, serving his community by building the number of housing units that are needed so desperately. And how is he repaid? With liberty and justice for all? Absolutely not. He was repaid by being profiled and then ultimately murdered. This story repeats over and over and over again," said Rep. Norma Torres (CA-35).
“All you have to be is the wrong person in their profile description and you could end up killed. America, we need to wake up. This is happening in our country. We are losing our values to respect human life," said Nydia M. Velázquez (NY-07). “These tragedies are the result of deliberate Trump administration policies that seeks to terrorize immigrants and American citizens alike. Congress has a responsibility to act, and we will not stop fighting until this rogue agency is held accountable.”
"Yesterday, a woman walked out of her home and into the chaos of the street where she saw a young girl no more than three years old. ICE had just shot and killed a 26-year-old man and shot him six times. And while [Joan Sebastian Guerrero] was lifeless on the floor, they handcuffed him," said Rep. Joaquin Castro (TX-20). "Neighbors said the man was the father of that young girl. It was 7:00 in the morning and the young girl was still wearing her Bluey pajamas. The woman said, 'Things like this never happen.' Except under Donald Trump, they seem to happen every week. And if we let this go longer, they will happen every day."

Washington, D.C. — La Coordinadora del Caucus Hispano del Congreso (CHC), la Rep. Sylvia García (TX-29), el Presidente del CHC, el Rep. Adriano Espaillat (NY-13), y miembros del CHC celebraron una conferencia de prensa este martes exigiendo respuestas sobre los recientes asesinatos a manos de agentes descontrolados del Servicio de Control de Inmigración y Aduanas (ICE). Los miembros reafirmaron su compromiso de frenar el abuso de poder de la administración Trump y sus asesinatos ilegales.
Los miembros del CHC celebrarán una audiencia el 24 de julio en Houston, Texas, para esclarecer más detalles sobre la absurda muerte de Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. Lorenzo era padre de tres hijos y vivió en los Estados Unidos durante 35 años en busca de un estatus legal.
Cada asesinato a manos de agentes del ICE es indignante y merece una condena total y absoluta. La administración Trump espera que veamos estos asesinatos como la nueva normalidad, pero el Caucus Hispano del Congreso no dejará de exigir respuestas y rendición de cuentas por quienes han muerto a manos de una agencia descontrolada que continúa aterrorizando indiscriminadamente a comunidades en todo el país.
"Cada vida vale lo mismo y deberíamos estar igualmente indignados por este asesinato. Cuando vemos a su hijo hablar de él, las lágrimas que corren por sus ojos son las mismas que brotan de los ojos de todos cuando alguien más es asesinado por el ICE. Estamos aquí para denunciarlo. Estamos aquí para denunciar el asesinato. Estamos aquí para denunciar el comportamiento violento del ICE, pero también estamos aquí para denunciar lo que es una especie de doble estándar, porque él es un hombre moreno, como si no tuviera nombre y apellido igual que cualquiera de nosotros", dijo el Presidente del CHC, el Rep. "Basta con ser la persona equivocada según su descripción de perfil y podrías terminar muerto. América, necesitamos despertar. Esto está sucediendo en nuestro país. Estamos perdiendo nuestros valores de respeto a la vida humana", dijo Nydia M. Velázquez (NY-07). "Estas tragedias son el resultado de políticas deliberadas de la administración Trump que buscan aterrorizar tanto a inmigrantes como a ciudadanos estadounidenses. El Congreso tiene la responsabilidad de actuar, y no dejaremos de luchar hasta que esta agencia descontrolada rinda cuentas."
"Ayer, una mujer salió de su casa y se encontró con el caos en la calle, donde vio a una niña de no más de tres años.
