WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the Chairs of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), and Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) wrote to Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries (NY-08), House Administration Ranking Member Joe Morelle (NY-25), and House Appropriations Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) on restoring the full independence of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) and strengthening its work in future Congresses.

“Justice Sonia Sotomayor is the first, and still only, Latina to sit on the United States Supreme Court and has proven to be a brilliant jurist, tough questioner, and fair arbiter of the rule of law throughout her tenure on the Court. She has played a part in some of the most impactful rulings in recent American jurisprudence, many of which have protected or expanded critical rights and programs that progressive lawmakers and advocates have fought for and celebrated. We look forward to her continued service on the Court.”

“Today we honor the lives of the construction workers who passed away as a result of the Baltimore Bridge collapse. Alejandro Hernandez Fuentes, Dorlian Ronial Castillo Cabrera, Maynor Yassir Suazo Sandoval, Miguel Luna, Jose Mynor Lopez, and Carlos Hernández, who lost their lives while working on the Francis Scott Key Bridge, were everyday heroes.
WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Nanette Barragán (CA-44) issued a response to the announcement that the U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB) will establish revisions to Statistical Policy Directive No. 15: Standards for Maintaining, Collecting, and Presenting Federal Data on Race and Ethnicity (SPD 15) in hopes to improve how the federal government collects information about race and ethnicity in the upcoming census:
“The updates to SPD 15 are a positive step forward to help ensure that Americans, including the Latino community, are more accurately represented in federal data reports. Specifically, these updates will also allow Latinos to specify if they identify with more than one Hispanic subgroup.

Henry Cuellar (TX-28), Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34), and Veronica Escobar (TX-16) in response to the 5th Circuit’s ruling late last night to once again block the implementation of SB 4, Texas anti-immigrant law:
“The recent ruling by the appeals court to once again block SB 4’s implementation is a brief sigh of relief for Texas’ communities, especially for Black and Brown communities across the state. This ruling, which comes hours after the Supreme Court majority decision allowed Texas to move forward with SB 4, helps avoid more chaos and confusion,” said the Members.

This decision prevents the MBDA from being able to consider an applicant’s race or ethnicity in determining eligibility for their programs.
