WASHINGTON—– On Tuesday, December 10th, members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus will hold a press conference marking the anniversary of the deaths of two migrant children and call for CBP to provide flu vaccines and substantive medical care to migrants in their custody.

WASHINGTON— Members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) called on the Department of Homeland Security Inspector General to expand their investigation into the death of Carlos Hernández Vásquez after an investigation by ProPublica and surveillance video revealed that CBP lied about the circumstances surrounding his death. CBP previously claimed that agents discovered his body during a welfare check, but the video evidence depicts Carlos’s cellmate discovering his body and alerting CBP. The Inspector General must investigate if CBP lied to conceal negligence on their part.

WASHINGTON— Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) members called on Gene L. Dodaro, Comptroller General at the U.S. Government Accountability Office, to conduct an expedited review of the legality of the appointment of Chad Wolf as Acting Secretary of Homeland Security and Ken Cuccinelli as Acting Deputy Secretary. The members write that the Trump Administration may have violated the Federal Vacancies Reform Act and the Homeland Security Act by elevating Wolf and Cuccinelli to leadership roles at the Department of Homeland Security. This request joins previous requests for a full review from Homeland Security Chairman Bennie G. Thompson and Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairwoman Carolyn Maloney.

WASHINGTON—– The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) and Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) will hold a Member-level panel discussion with the US Commission on Civil Rights (USCCR) on their recent report Trauma at the Border: The Human Cost of Inhumane Immigration Policies.

WASHINGTON— This week, the Chairs of the Congressional Tri-Caucus – which represents over half of the Democratic Caucus and includes the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), and Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) – called on Google to answer for their decision to hire Miles Taylor as a government affairs and public policy manager. Taylor formerly served as Chief of Staff to then-Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Kristjen Nielsen. During his tenure as a top DHS official, Taylor weighed in on and helped implement immigration policies related to family separation, the Muslim Ban, and other policies that have been detrimental to immigrant communities. In fact, several of the policies enforced by DHS during Miles Taylor’s tenure have been vocally opposed by Google’s leadership and employees.

WASHINGTON — Today, the leaders of the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC), Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), and Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) issued a joint statement calling for Stephen Miller’s resignation, following a report released by the Southern Poverty Law Center documenting multiple instances in which Stephen Miller espoused white nationalist beliefs and vilified communities of color and immigrants in leaked emails to Breitbart.
