On June 29, 2011, Congressman Brooks said that he would do “anything short of shooting them (undocumented immigrants).” Chairman Gonzalez condemns rhetoric rooted in anger and violence and urges that the discussion on immigration be based on a common desire for workable solutions:

President Lyndon Johnson signed Medicare into law on July 30, 1965, and it was enacted on July 1, 1966, when enrollees first entered the program.

Gonzalez, Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus Chair Judy Chu and Congressional Black Caucus Chair Emanuel Cleaver today denounced Republican efforts to terminate the Election Assistance Commission, the agency Congress created in the wake of the debacle in Florida during the 2000 Presidential Election. The Election Assistance Commission (EAC) was created by the Help America Vote Act, which Whip Hoyer was the lead co-sponsor of in the House.
