GOP SENATORS PROPOSE TO PROHIBIT IMMIGRATION LAWSUITS

November 7, 2011

Washington D.C.: Chairman Charles A. Gonzalez (TX 20) released this statement today in response to the announcement that U.S. Senators Jim DeMint (R-SC), David Vitter (R-LA) and Jeff Sessions (R-AL) will offer legislation to prohibit President Obama’s administration and federal agencies, from participating in lawsuits against South Carolina, Alabama and Arizona over recently passed immigration laws:

“It should be obvious by now that the real solution to fixing our broken immigration system is comprehensive immigration reform which addresses both border security and the economic interests of our nation. It is regrettable that once again some elected officials wish to extract a perceived political advantage by proposing an unrealistic and unworkable approach which ignores the economic realities in their own states."
