Congressional Hispanic Caucus Statement Celebrating Labor Day
Washington, D.C. -Today, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01) issued the following statement celebrating Labor Day and the invaluable contributions hardworking immigrant families have made to the United States:
“Today, we celebrate hardworking families whose grit and ingenuity have helped build this country. For generations, Hispanic and immigrant families have tirelessly labored in factories, offices, fields and small businesses and as a result, have left a notable mark on history by helping build this country and its economy.
“Despite immigrant families' invaluable contributions, we continue to see the Trump Administration attack these families by ending programs like DACA and TPS, which have allowed many to open small businesses and find productive ways to contribute to their communities.
“As we celebrate Labor Day, we must reaffirm our commitment to protect working families, including immigrant families. Congress must provide a permanent solution for Dreamers and TPS holders. Furthermore, we must also ensure workers have the right to organize, access to better wages, workplace protections, increased skills training and affordable education. Protecting working families will help grow the middle class and expand economic opportunity for all Americans.”
