November 24, 2023

Washington, D.C.  – The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) is heading to Houston, Texas, this Monday as part of the CHC on the Road initiative to engage with Latinos across the region. In Houston, CHCChairNanette Barragán (CA-44) will join CHC Whip Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29)in hosting Vice President of the United States of America Kamala Harris for a community conversation at a local health department center.

CHC on the Road creates an opportunity to inform Latinos about the legislative victories Democrats in Congress and the Biden Administration have accomplished on their behalf, such as the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, historic increases in federal loans to Latino businesses, and much more. It also serves as a platform to connect with Latino populations, hear their concerns, and share information about tools and resources available to them.

“We are excited to bring the CHC on the Road to Houston, Texas, and be joined by Vice President Kamala Harris. This is an opportunity for the CHC and the Vice President to talk about all that Congress and the Biden-Harris Administration have delivered for our Latino communities already and the work ahead to lay the groundwork for a brighter future for all Latinos,” said CHC Chair Nanette Barragán.

"I am thrilled to welcome Vice President Kamala Harris and Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chair Nanette Barragán to Texas Congressional District 29th. As the representative of a district that is 77% Latino, I am proud to see the significant progress made by the Biden-Harris Administration for our Latino communities," said Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia. "This visit emphasizes the importance of recognizing and addressing the specific needs of the Latino population. I am honored to represent a dynamic community of resilient individuals, who are united by their compassion, tenacity, and shared commitment to achieving the American Dream for their families. Through collaboration and advocacy, we are building a future where the Latino community not only thrives but also plays an integral role in shaping the narrative of our country."

“Houston is a perfect place to continue our long list of CHC on the Road host areas. The Houston metropolitan area is home to America’s fourth-largest Latino population – almost 2.8 million Latinos and growing. Our CHC Whip, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia, has been a great partner in Congress and has helped to bring this trip together and welcome the Vice President and CHC to her wonderful city. We’re looking forward to this visit with our Latino community here in Southeast Texas,” concluded CHC Chair Nanette Barragán.
