CHC Chair Statement on Earth Day

April 20, 2018

Environmental Issues are Hispanic Issues

Washington, D.C. - Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chairwoman Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01) released the following statement in honor of Earth Day:
"On Earth Day we renew our commitment to the protection and preservation of our environment, land, water and wildlife. In contrast to the President's reckless disregard for the environment, we must advance policies that address climate change and continue to do the right thing for the health of our families and planet.
"Environmental issues are Hispanic issues and impact every single one of us. Hispanics are among the most vulnerable to extreme weather events and are more likely to suffer health issues stemming from environmental pollution. We have to fight to ensure that future generations of Americans have the opportunity to grow up in a safe and healthy environment.
"The United States cannot be sidelined on issues that affect the environment. The future of our nation depends on strong environmental policies that benefit the health, prosperity, and security of Hispanics and of the entire world."
