CHC Chair Reaction to Trump's Arpaio Pardon and Transgender Military Ban

August 31, 2017
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 26, 2017
Washington, D.C. - The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01) released the following statement after President Trump pardoned former Maricopa Sheriff Joe Arpaio and issued a memo banning transgender Americans from enlisting in the military:

"Under the cover of a looming natural disaster, President Trump cowardly announced that he had pardoned the disgraced former sheriff Joe Arpaio and banned transgender Americans from serving in our military. Ultimately, his decisions signal that Trump allies are above the law and make it clear that bigotry will be rewarded and condoned by the Trump administration. This is precisely the wrong message to send to the American people and will worsen the divisions in our nation."
