WASHINGTON—Congressional Hispanic Caucus Leadership called on the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Inspector General and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to investigate the Trump Organization’s practices of hiring and mistreatment of undocumented workers. This Hispanic Caucus request follows a meeting between Members and three former employees of the Trump Organization, whose employment was terminated earlier this year.

WASHINGTON—Today, Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), Chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, marked the introduction of H.R. 6, the Dream and Promise Act of 2019, which is a landmark piece of legislation to reform our immigration policies and protect our nation’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients, as well as our Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) holders, allowing them to contribute fully to our country while providing a pathway to citizenship.

WASHINGTON, DC--- Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), Chairman of the Hispanic Caucus, and several members of the caucus released the following statements in response to an announcement by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) that a 24-year-old woman from Honduras gave birth to a stillborn 27-week old child while in custody at the Port Isabel Detention Center (PIDC).

HOMESTEAD, FLORIDA–Today, Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), Chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, and Congresswoman Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (FL-26), a member of the House Judiciary Committee and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, led a delegation to the Homestead Temporary Shelter for Unaccompanied Migrant Children. Homestead is the largest facility for unaccompanied children in the country run by a for-profit corporation that is also rapidly expanding. Following their visit to Homestead Temporary Shelter, the Members briefed the press on the conditions at the shelter and the standards of care provided to the children detained there.

Raul Ruiz (CA-36), CHC Chairman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), House Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security Chairwoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-40), Assistant Leader Ben Ray Lujan (NM-02), House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (NY-10), House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration and Citizenship Chairwoman Zoe Lofgren (CA-19), and 19 other Democratic Members of Congress announced the introduction of legislation directing U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) to implement a set of minimum humanitarian standards for the treatment of individuals in CBP custody. The standards included in the legislation would address the ongoing humanitarian crisis at the border, where two children – Jakelin Caal and Felipe Gomez – died in December while in CBP custody.
