Statement from the CHC Chair and Vice Chair of Policy on Florida Senate Bill 1718 for Immigration
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Nanette Barragán and Vice Chair of Policy Darren Soto issued the following statement on Florida Senate Bill 1718 that would criminalize transporting anyone who is undocumented within the state, require hospitals to collect patient immigration status data information prior to providing care, and stop state agencies from recognizing out-of-state driver's licenses that are issued to undocumented immigrants:
"The bill introduced this week by Florida Republican State Senator Blaise Ingoglia is inhumane and outrageous. Governor Ron DeSantis and his Republican colleagues continue to show that they are more focused on attacking and vilifying immigrants and Latinos to advance their political agenda than solving the real problems hurting Floridians. In order to protect immigrants in the United States from these harmful laws, Congress must pass comprehensive immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship that modernizes border efficiency."
