ROMNEY’S PLANS TO VETO DREAM ACT

January 3, 2012

Washington D.C.: Chairman Charles A. Gonzalez (TX 20) released this statement after Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said he would veto the DREAM Act, if elected. The DREAM Act provides a path to citizenship for undocumented students who entered the United States as children, graduated from a U.S. high school and are enrolled in college or enlisted in the Armed Forces.

"Mitt Romney's comments in Iowa reveal several things about the candidate. They show that he is woefully under informed about the contributions of hardworking DREAMers and is out of touch with the policy realities of immigration reform. His response also reveals that he is willing to pander to unreasonable political extremists at the expense of achieving a practical, workable solution to our country's immigration problems."
