Congressional Hispanic Caucus Statement On President Trump’s Stealing Military Funding for Border Wall
This marks the 4th time that Trump has raided Pentagon funds for his border wall, stealing from military families, service members, and national security priorities for his own personal gain
WASHINGTON — Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), Chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), issued the following statement in response to President Trump using transfer authority to reprogram $3.8 billion in military funding to instead fund border wall construction:
"President Trump's reckless abuse of power makes a mockery of our Congress, our Constitution, and basic separation of powers. We've seen this before and Congress should have known to expect the Administration to ransack government funding to pay for his wasteful, ineffective border wall. In fact, the Hispanic Caucus opposed the fiscal year 2020 funding package in December specifically because it did not restrict transfer authority and was therefore a blank check for President Trump. Congress must retake the power of the purse and never again allow this President to violate the Constitution for his personal and political benefit."
