Congressional Hispanic Caucus Statement Following Decision By U.S. District Court Judge Hanen Upholding The Deferred Action For Childhood Arrivals Program
Washington, D.C. -Today, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01) issued the following statement after U.S. District Court Judge Hanen declined to issue a preliminary injunction in the Texas lawsuit to terminate the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program:
"Today's ruling simply continues the uncertainty for hundreds of thousands of DACA recipients, which began as a result of Trump's reckless decision to end the program and Congressional Republicans' refusal to join us in working toward a permanent and bipartisan solution.
"It is beyond belief that even with overwhelming national support from every swathe of the nation that this Republican-controlled Congress and the President have not been able to pass a solution for Dreamers. This is an abdication of responsibility to the American people who want their leaders to act without delay.
"If Republicans wanted to truly protect them, then it would happen immediately. Instead, they seem content with throwing DACA recipients' lives, and the future of companies that rely on their hard work, into chaos.
"The Congressional Hispanic Caucus, the American people, and I call on Republican Leadership to do their job and stop relying on the court system to legislate for them. We deserve better than this. We will fight to demand better than this. And as we continue fighting, we urge every eligible young person to renew his or her DACA status the soonest possible."
