Congressional Hispanic Caucus Leadership: No Reason to Think Markwayne Mullin Will Be any Different

Washington, D.C. — Following Sen. Markwayne Mullin's Senate confirmation as the next Homeland Security secretary the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) leadership issued the following statement:
“As long as Stephen Miller is in control, there is no 'kinder, gentler’ DHS. We know President Trump fired Secretary Noem not because of her corruption, incompetence or open disdain for civil liberties, but because she was dragging down his poll numbers.
We have no reason to think Markwayne Mullin will be any different.
He has shown no signs of pushing back on Stephen Miller, has not called out the blatant corruption in the Trump administration, could not correctly identify a core component of ICE, and time and time again has reiterated his belief in violence as a means to resolve civil disagreements.
A reminder to President Trump: You have overstepped your bounds and the American people know it. Replacing one sycophant for another will not correct for a corrupt agency, void of Constitutional compliance.”

Washington, D.C. — En respuesta a la confirmación del Senado del Sen. Markwayne Mullin como el siguiente secretario de seguridad interior, el liderazgo del Caucus Hispano del Congreso (CHC) emitió el siguiente comunicado:
“Mientras Stephen Miller continúe tras las riendas, no habrá un DHS más 'gentil.' Sabemos que el Presidente Trump despidió a la Secretaria Noem no por su corrupción, su incompetencia o su desdén por las libertades civiles, sino porque estaba dañando su popularidad.
No hay razón para pensar que Marwayne Mullin será diferente.
Él no ha demostrado señales de enfrentar a Stephen Miller, no ha criticado la abierta corrupción de la administración Trump, no pudo identificar uno de los componentes fundamentales de ICE, y una y otra vez ha reiterado que cree en la violencia como método de solución de controversias civiles.
Que no se olvide el Presidente Trump: usted ha sobrepasado sus límites y el pueblo americano lo sabe. Reemplazar un sicofante por otro no curará una agencia corrupta, fuera del orden constitucional."
