Congressional Hispanic Caucus Endorses Julie Su as the Nation’s Next Secretary of Labor
Washington, DC - The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) issued the following statement on President Joe Biden's nomination of Deputy Secretary of Labor Julie A. Su to succeed Secretary Walsh as the next Secretary of the U.S. Department of Labor:
"The CHC is proud to support Julie Su's nomination by President Biden to serve as the next Secretary of Labor. Since being confirmed as Deputy Secretary in July 2021, Su has worked tirelessly to support the Biden Administration's work to build a robust and resilient economy where all workers can succeed – with worker's rights as the guiding light. She has dedicated her career to fighting for workers - improving conditions, pay, and protections regardless of their immigration status. Su's work with our labor unions, her leadership of the largest state labor department in the nation as Secretary of California's Labor and Workforce Development Agency, and her 17 years of experience as a civil rights attorney – provide her with a strong foundation to successfully lead the Department of Labor.
We applaud President Biden's commitment to a qualified and experienced cabinet that reflects the diversity of our country – Deputy Secretary Su would be the first Asian American Secretary in President Biden's cabinet. We join our Tri-Caucus colleagues to call on the Senate to swiftly confirm her as Secretary of Labor."
