Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chair Statement on ICE Enforcement Activities and Detention of an Individual with DACA

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Michelle Lujan Grisham released the following statement on U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) recent enforcement activity and to news that Daniel Ramirez Medina, a young man with a work permit and deferred action granted under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) initiative was apprehended in Seattle, Washington during an ICE enforcement activity.
"ICE's recent enforcement activities have created fear, havoc, and panic in communities across this country. CHC Members have been blitzed by calls from City Council Members, Federal Judges, Governors, Mayors, advocacy groups, the media, and constituents who are confused and looking for guidance on who ICE is really targeting in their raids. That confusion has multiplied with news of the apprehension of DACA recipient, Daniel Ramirez Medina because it calls into question whether young people with DACA status are now targets for deportation.
"We demand that ICE provide us with clear answers on who they are targeting in these immigration raids and to tell us whether or not their expanded discretion prioritizes for deportation DACA recipients and according to experts, eight of the 11 million undocumented immigrants in the United States.
"The Administration needs to stop stonewalling Members of Congress and share accurate and up-to-date information, which is literally the least they can do."
