Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Applauds Fair and Humane Public Charge Rule Published by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS)

September 8, 2022

Washington, D.C. – Today's announcement by DHS demonstrates the Biden Administration's commitment to ensure fair, humane, effective management of our nation's immigration systems. In response to today's announcement that restores the historical understanding of a ‘public charge' that had been in place for decades, CHC Chair Dr. Raul Ruiz issued the following statement:

"As Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), I applaud the Biden Administration for issuing today's final rule that will help prevent the inhumane and cruel public charge policy from ever happening again. The CHC advocated for its removal and will continue to fight for a professional, humane immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship."
