WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chairwoman Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01) released the following statement in reaction to the Committee on Homeland Security's markup of H.R. 3548, the so-called Border Security for America Act of 2017:
"H.R. 3548 is draconian and counterproductive to the goal of enacting common-sense legislative solutions to our broken immigration system. At a time when our border is the safest it's ever been and passing a clean DREAM Act is more urgent than ever, House Republicans want to bring forth legislation that would irresponsibly divert billions of American taxpayer dollars to pay for a rushed border agent hiring surge and President Trump's border wall. It is time for House Republicans to stand with the overwhelming majority of the American people who desire to protect Dreamers by bringing the Dream Act to the floor for a vote and halting efforts to have the American people pay for the President's border wall and deportation force."
