CHC Statement on Impeachment of Mayorkas

Washington, DC -- Today, Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Nanette Barragán (CA-44) and CHC Leadership released the following statement in response to the impeachment of Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas:

“House Republicans’ impeachment of Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is another political stunt. This impeachment of the Secretary is not about his failure to secure the border. House Republicans have no interest in securing the border. They have said it themselves.

Republicans refuse to fund the resources requested by Secretary Mayorkas and the Biden-Harris Administration to address challenges at the Southern Border.  They do not want to do anything to help, because they want to campaign on the issue. House MAGA extremists can't have it both ways. 

This MAGA fabricated impeachment failed to show any evidence of a high crime or misdemeanor by Secretary Mayorkas. The impeachment of Secretary Mayorkas creates a dangerous precedent where cabinet members will be targeted by Congress over policy disagreements.  We are confident the Senate will agree and end this sham impeachment. 

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus stands ready to work with any member, regardless of party, on legal pathways for those already here paired with actual solutions to address our challenges at the Southern Border.”
