November 20, 2013

Washington D.C.: Today, CHC Chairman Rubén Hinojosa (TX-15) and Members of the CHC visited the immigration reform leaders participating in the Fast for Families on the National Mall.

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus has always been on the frontlines of immigration reform. Today, the following CHC Members met with the Fast for Families leaders who are on day 9 of the fast:
Chairman Rubén Hinojosa (TX-15)
Democratic Caucus Chairman Xavier Becerra (CA-34)
Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20)
Congressman Joe Garcia (FL-26)
Congressman Raul Grijalva (AZ-03)
Congressman Luis Gutierrez (IL-04)
Congressman Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan (MP)
Congresswoman Linda Sanchez (CA-38)
Congressman Juan Vargas (CA-51)

"We came to meet with Fast for Families leaders who have been fasting for 9 days. We came here to show our strong support for comprehensive immigration reform and to stand in solidarity with these great leaders." -- CHC Chairman Rubén Hinojosa (TX-15).

“It's time for Congress to stand up. I’m proud to stand in solidarity with those fasting in support of a just cause: comprehensive immigration reform. There are no more excuses. Let the House Republican leadership hear the call to reform our broken immigration system and stay true to our American values.” -- Congressman Xavier Becerra (CA-34), Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus.

"The folks participating in this fast are continuing to build momentum for immigration reform. It should be clear to those hoping that the political tide will washout on immigration that will not be the case. The American people are ready for reform." -- Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20).

"We have more than 190 votes and if Speaker Boehner allows a vote on the House Floor, we will be able to pass comprehensive immigration reform. This is not dead, this will pass." -- Congressman Joe Garcia (FL-26).

"The fasters are sacrificing so much every day, day in and day out. This immigration movement is alive." -- Congressman Luis Gutierrez (IL-04).

“The courage and dedication shown by the fasters is inspiring. They are more than activists, these are real people who have to live with the consequences if Congress fails to pass comprehensive immigration reform. They haven’t given up and neither should Congress. It’s time for House Republicans to summon some of the courage showed by the fasters and allow a vote on comprehensive immigration reform." -- Congresswoman Linda Sanchez (CA-38).

"Gracias por lo que están haciendo. Estamos con ustedes." -- Congressman Juan Vargas (CA-51).
