CHC Is on the Road in Commerce, CO with U.S. Commerce Department to Tout New Investments in Minority Small Business

March 4, 2024

Commerce City, Colorado – This afternoon, in Commerce City, Colorado, Congresswoman Yadira Caraveo, M.D. (CO-08) will host Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chair Nanette Barragán (CA-44) and U.S. Deputy Commerce Secretary Don Graves to tout new investments Democrats and the Administration have delivered to help minority and other underserved small businesses grow and scale.

CHC worked hard to pass President Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and include the Minority Business Development Act in its passage, which expanded the Minority Business Development Agency’s (MBDA) geographic reach across America by authorizing new regional offices and business centers. MBDA centers provide strategic business consulting services by helping them secure opportunities, access resources, and generate employment.

This is a huge win for minority small business owners, including Latinos, because it ensures the MBDA is permanent and can continue its mission to foster the establishment and growth of minority-owned businesses in America.

“We are excited to hold our ninth CHC on the Road visit in Commerce City, Colorado, to welcome Deputy Secretary of Commerce, Don Graves, as we engage local business owners. Small businesses, including Latino-owned business owners, are the backbone of our economy. Data shows Latino-owned businesses generate over $400 billion in revenue and sustain over 3 million jobs across the country. Commerce City was an ideal location to continue our initiative as 48% of the residents identify as Latino or Hispanic,” said CHC Chair Nanette Barragán

“President Biden’s Investing In America agenda is doing impactful work in communities nationwide and Adams County is no different,” said U.S. Deputy Commerce Secretary Don Graves. “I’m excited to be here meeting with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, community leaders, and local entrepreneurs to engage in thoughtful conversations about how the Commerce Department can be a better partner for the folks here in Colorado.”

“I’m proud to welcome Chair Barragán and Deputy Secretary Graves to Commerce City today,” said Rep. Caraveo. “The many Latino-owned businesses in Colorado are a great symbol of our rich culture and heritage. I’m looking forward to introducing Chair Barragán and Deputy Secretary Graves to some of the hardworking small business owners here in the Front Range who will offer innovative ideas as to how the federal government can support their enterprises.”

“CHC member, Congresswoman Yadira Caraveo, M.D., has been an incredible partner to assemble today’s business tour and local business roundtable, and we’re looking forward to engaging with the Denver-area Latino community on these investments and sharing how they will benefit communities,” concluded CHC Chair Nanette Barragán

This CHC on the Road stop will include a visit to local Latino-owned small businesses, followed by a roundtable discussion with several Latino and minority business leaders.
