CHC ON SARAH SALDAÑA SENATE CONFIRMATION

December 16, 2014

Washington, DC- Today, Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chairman Rubén Hinojosa, Chair-Elect Linda Sánchez, and CHC First Vice Chair and Diversity Task Force Chair Ben Ray Luján released the following statements on the Senate's confirmation of Sarah Saldaña to be the next Assistant Secretary for Immigration and Customs Enforcement at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

"As a fellow Texan, it gives me great pride to congratulate Sarah Saldaña on her Senate confirmation. Sarah Saldaña has a distinguished career in public service and has continuously broken barriers as a Latina. The Congressional Hispanic Caucus looks forward to working with Ms. Saldaña on the implementation of the President's executive actions on immigration that will aid nearly 5 million undocumented immigrants," said CHC Chairman Rubén Hinojosa (TX-15).

“I congratulate Sarah Saldaña on her confirmation to serve as the next Director of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). As the first Latina to lead ICE, Sarah Saldaña’s confirmation is notable, and I thank Senator Harry Reid for working hard to advance her nomination. I am confident in her ability to lead the agency as it tackles issues on immigration, national security, and the implementation of President Obama’s Immigration Accountability Executive Actions. I look forward to working with Sarah Saldaña as Chair of the CHC in the 114th Congress on these issues of importance to Latinos and Americans across the country," said CHC Chair-Elect Linda Sánchez (CA-38).

"A distinguished attorney who was Texas’s first Latina chief prosecutor, Sarah Saldaña is again breaking new ground as the first Latina to head the Immigration and Customs Enforcement. She brings a deep commitment to public service that has been on display most recently during her time in the U.S. attorney’s office in Texas. I congratulate Ms. Saldaña on receiving Senate confirmation to serve in this key position that will play an important role in implementing the President’s immigration executive action, and look forward to working with her," said CHC First Vice Chair and Diversity Task Force Chair Ben Ray Luján (NM-03).
