CHC ON ONE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF S. 744 INTRODUCTION
Washington, DC- Today, Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chairman Rubén Hinojosa (TX-15) released the following statement on the anniversary of the Senate introducing S. 744, the comprehensive immigration reform bill which ultimately passed with a bipartisan vote of 68 to 32. Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) introduced S. 744 on April 16, 2013.
"One year ago today, the Senate introduced a comprehensive immigration reform bill, S. 744, that would permanently fix our nation's broken immigration system. The legislation went on to pass with a bipartisan majority, and now more than 275 days have passed since the Senate did its job.
The American people, religious and business leaders, and community organizations are all calling for reform, and the only ones standing in the way are House Republicans. It is time for House Republican Leadership to allow a vote on H.R. 15 which already has the support of 200 Democratic and Republican Members. The Hispanic Caucus continues to demand a vote on comprehensive immigration reform and will not stop leading on this issue until there is a permanent legislative fix."
