CHC ON MEETING WITH DHS SECRETARY JEH JOHNSON

April 9, 2014

Today, Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chairman Rubén Hinojosa (TX-15) and Members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus met with Department of Homeland Secretary Jeh Johnson to discuss ways by which urgent relief can be provided to immigrant families. CHC Chairman Rubén Hinojosa released the following statement:

"Today's meeting with Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson was productive and we thank the Secretary for meeting with us. Secretary Johnson heard our concerns and assured us that he is thoroughly reviewing the Department’s enforcement policies. He understands the impact those policies have on families and earnestly heard every concern brought forth by our CHC Members. Ultimately, we both know that the only way to permanently provide relief to immigrant families is for Congress to enact comprehensive immigration reform. The only ones standing in the way of a permanent solution are House Republicans who continue blocking a vote on H.R. 15.

There's no question that the Administration is working with us and that these are very complicated issues that need to be resolved. Following today's meeting, we are one step closer in being able to address the concerns brought forth by Members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, the immigrant community and civil rights leaders."
