CHC Chair Statement on Reports of President Ending DACA

August 28, 2017

Washington D.C. – Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chair Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01) released this statement following reports that President Trump appears likely to terminate the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program:

"Any attempts by President Trump to end DACA would be a betrayal against a group of young people who are the living embodiment of American values. Such a deliberately immoral decision would tear at the fabric of our country and be a permanent stain on our history. The end of DACA would cast out nearly a million young people who want nothing more than to contribute to the country they love, revere, respect, and call home. The President should know that we are united and ready to fight for DACA recipients because the stakes are too high."
