CHC Chair Statement on President Biden’s Executive Order Advancing Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities

February 16, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Nanette Barragán issued the following statement on President Biden's Executive Order on Further Advancing Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities Through the Federal Government:

"Historical disparities that exist in Latino communities create additional barriers to opportunity and deny access to tools for success. We applaud President Biden's continued efforts to advance equity and racial justice throughout the Federal Government, creating a government that represents and is responsive to the needs of all communities.

Increased economic opportunity and equitable development opportunities for Latinos in underserved communities led by policies that address systemic discrimination, will allow our communities to thrive. Improved engagement and targeted partnerships also have the potential to reduce poverty, increase generational wealth, and lead to improved outcomes in Latino communities across the country.

Language barriers, generational poverty, lack of equitable access and opportunity, and discrimination have all slowed our advancement and progress in Latino communities. This is why achieving equity at all levels of government will continue to be a priority for the Caucus. We will continue to work with the President and his Administration to uplift and empower our communities so that our future is a fair and equitable one for generations to come."
